What’s your favorite way to cook beef? For the most part, Americans are pretty traditional when it comes to how they consume this meat. We all love a good hamburger in the summer and on nicer occasions, we may even allow ourselves the luxury of a nice steak. Still, the world of beef is much more vast and variable than we may know. Aside from the main cuts, there are plenty of cheaper meats to use in tacos and other recipes if you know how to cook them correctly—even cheaper cuts can be incredibly tender under the right circumstances.
The recipe we’re bringing you today is one of those recipes that can expand your beef repertoire just a little bit wider. And best of all? It uses a slow cooker. That’s right, today we’re doing a twist on the Sunday roast by making a delicious and tender slow cooker balsamic beef recipe, one that only takes about five minutes of preparation. If you were looking for a new way to bring life to your dinner table, look no further. Let’s get started.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 pounds of beef chuck roast
- 1 cup of beef broth
- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 4 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
Here’s what you do:
1. To begin, make sure your slow cooker well-greased with cooking oil or wiped down with a little bit of olive oil. Once you’re satisfied, put your whole chuck roast right down in the middle of it.
2. Next, get a medium bowl and mix together your beef broth, minced garlic, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper. Mix it well to combine before pouring the entire mixture over your beef chuck roast.
3. With the marinade added in, cover your slow cooker and let it cook on high for four hours or on low for six to eight hours.
4. When the time is up, open up the slow cooker and make sure the meat looks like it’s been cooked through. If everything is good, take the roast out, get two forks out and start pulling it apart like you would a pulled pork recipe. After it’s well-shredded, put the shredded beef back in the slow cooker and mix it with all the juices and you’re ready to serve!
As you can see, the actual preparation of this dish is incredibly straightforward. The results are a dinner meal reminiscent of pulled pork that tastes rich, savory and tangy as well. As an added bonus, soaking the meat in balsamic vinegar also helps the entire thing become incredibly tender as well.
