If you’ve never heard of “crack chicken” before, you’re in for a real treat!

Just as the name implies, this cheesy chicken, bacon, and ranch recipe is outrageously addicting. As you may have surmised, it all has to do with the delicious, creamy, irresistible ingredients that go into it.

Aside from the mouthwatering flavors, though, this recipe is also addicting for a different reason entirely- it’s almost too easy to make!

Basically a decadent take on a classic dump meal, crack chicken can be made in your slow cooker or Instant Pot, and it comes out beautiful every single time!

This family favorite cooks up easily with a pretty minimal amount of effort on your part, and it goes great on just about everything!

Though it’s often used as a dip, it makes a delicious sandwich fit for a king, goes great over rice and potatoes, and can easily disappear in a bowl all on its own.

And one of the best parts about it is that it requires only a few ingredients!

Here is what you’ll need:

  • 2 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing seasoning (or another of your favorite brands)
  • 1 pound (2 bricks) of cream cheese
  • 1/2 a pound of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 1/2 cups of grated cheddar cheese
  • sliced green onions for garnishing

Step 1- the dump

The first thing you’ll do is take the chicken and set it in the slow cooker. Next, dump in your ranch seasoning packet, sprinkling it all over the chicken.

Then, add your cream cheese to the top of the chicken. Honestly, you can do this bit how you like. A lot of people like to cube their cream cheese for more even melting. But, taking into consideration how long it will be cooking in the slow cooker, this step really isn’t necessary.

Step 2- Crock it

After you’ve put the chicken, seasonings, and the cream cheese into the slow cooker, cover with the lid and set to cook on the low setting for a total of six hours.

This will be tough because at hour 1 it’s going to start to smell SOOOO good. We must warn you though- resist ALL urges to open it up and have a whiff. If you do, you’ll only have to wait that much longer to dig in.

When you’ve only got about a half-hour or so left on the timer, cook your bacon, strain it, and chop or crumble it up into nice, hearty chunks.

Step 3- shred and stir

After the six longest hours of your life have passed, it’s time to pull that lid off!

Using two forks and your wits, shred the chicken up. You can either remove it to a plate to do this, or do it right in the pot- it’s up to you.

After the chicken is all shredded, stir it to mix in with the melted cream cheese.

Step 4- get loaded

Once your chicken is shredded and stirred into the cream cheese, it’s time to load ‘er up!

Sprinkle in your shredded cheddar cheese until the top is completely covered. Next, add in your cooked and crumbled bacon (make sure it’s a hearty helping because why not?) and then sprinkle your sliced green onions over the top as well. Sprinkle in as much of these as you like because, as far as we’re concerned, you just can’t go wrong.

Step 5- crack out

Now all that’s left to do is dish out your crack chicken in whatever way suits your fancy- between a bun, over rice, in a bowl- the options are truly endless here.

As we said, the recipe couldn’t be any easier to make and requires very few ingredients. So, why not give it a shot and let us know how it turned out in the comments?!
