Do you and your family have a favorite dinner recipe? Everyone will give a different answer to questions like these but for many of us it probably involves most of the usual suspects. There should be some kind of hearty carb in there, maybe some protein in the form of our favorite meat ingredient, some butter, some spices to keep everything flavorful and fun. Still, we sometimes struggle to come up with ways to make recipes that everyone will love that are still relatively easy to pull off in the kitchen. Fortunately, we have a great one for you today.

This recipe for butter garlic herb steak is absolutely delicious and couldn’t be easier. Rather than cooking all the ingredients separately, this version has everything thrown together in little snack-ready packets that the whole family is sure to love.

Here’s what you need:

Steak Packets:

  • 1 pound of small red potatoes, quartered
  • 2 sliced carrots
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 red onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 1/2 pounds of sirloin steak, cubed
  • salt
  • pepper
  • heavy aluminum foil

Garlic Herb Butter:

  • 1/2 cup of room temperature butter
  • 1/4 cup of freshly chopped parsley
  • 4 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of pepper

Here’s what you do:

1. First, get a medium bowl to start mixing together your ingredients. Chop up your red potatoes, carrots, peppers and red onion. Throw in some salt and pepper and toss it all with some olive oil.

2. Once the filling is ready, get four 18 by 12-inch pieces of aluminum foil and put them on the counter. Fill each one with an equal amount of vegetable mixture in the middle of them with room to fold the sides up. Take your steak, chop it into cubes and evenly disperse those on top of the veggies in the packets as well.

3. Now that your packets are set, you can make your garlic herb butter. Get a small town and throw in butter, garlic, parsley, rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper. Mix everything together evenly until it’s well incorporated and divide it evenly on top of the steak amongst the four packets. Now that they’re all set, do a double fold on the top and the ends of each piece of foil, leaving some space for steam to build up inside them.

4. Now that you’re ready, make sure your grill is heated up and throw your packets on top of it. Cover it up and let it grill for about 15 minutes—at that point, the steak should be cooked through and the vegetables will be soft and tender. Pull your packets off the grill, carefully open them and serve!

As you can see, this recipe is a perfect addition to any outdoor barbecues or parties you may be planning on having this summer—and it couldn’t be easier to make. Although this one is best made on a grill, you can also do this in the oven if you don’t have a grill handy. Instead of following the above instructions, simply preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Throw your packets on a cookie sheet and let them cook for about 30 minutes. As with the grilled packets, check to make sure the meat is done before you dig in.

Although this recipe creates delicious and easy dinners, you can also experiment freely with the ingredients in each of these! If you don’t like steak, why not put in chicken, peppers, onion and taco seasoning to make some easy fajita packets? All you need to do is combine a protein, veggie and a seasoning and the possibilities are endless.
