Although most of the recipes we make are designed as a substantial meal for the family, sometimes we just want to make something that we can snack on. Particularly in the summer time, we like to have parties and get-togethers with plenty of side dishes that our guests can nibble away at while talking or doing other things. For cases like these, the recipe we have to day is absolutely perfect.

How do you feel about chips and dip? If you’re anything like me, chips and dip were a staple of growing up and one of the best snack foods that exist. That’s why today, we’re going to make a homemade garlic aioli dip that’s better than any dip we’ve ever tasted. With just a few ingredients and some simple preparation, this dip is sure to become one of your family’s favorite snack foods as well. Fortunately, you can use this with just about anything. So let’s get started.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 3 garlic bulbs
  • 1 cup of mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • salt
  • pepper

Here’s what you do:

1. To start, preheat your oven to 425 degrees. After that, take your garlic bulbs and cut the heads off of each one of them so that the individual cloves are exposed.

2. Next, put your bulbs on a sheet of tin foil and drizzle them generously with olive oil. When you’re ready, wrap them up in the tin foil and put them on a baking sheet to cook for 30 minutes. When they’re done, they should be soft, golden brown and very fragrant.

3. Once you’ve taken the bulbs out of the oven, set them aside to cool off briefly. When they’re easy to touch, squeeze the individual garlic cloves out of the heads into a medium mixing bowl.

4. Next, add your mayonnaise, lemon, salt, pepper, parsley and rosemary together in the same bowl. Use a fork to mash up the garlic and mix everything together thoroughly until it turns smooth and creamy. Give it a taste and adjust the spices as necessary. When it looks and tastes good, you’re ready to serve! Keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to eat.

As you can see, making your own delicious garlic dip is incredibly simple and is sure to be a hit any parties you might be attending. Although this dip goes great with plain potato chips, it also works well on roasted potatoes, roasted veggies and even as a sandwich spread. Because it’s designed to be a snack food, this dip is relatively high in fat and is not exactly the healthiest recipe out there. Still, eat it sparingly and you’ll be fine.

Although the recipe we’ve listed above works well as it is, you can always experiment with it to make it your own. With the base of the baked garlic, add your own spices to give it some more flair—maybe some paprika or cayenne pepper for some extra heat? Above all, have fun with the process and let us know how it turns out!
