When’s the last time you had a delicious pot roast? Because it’s a bigger meal that tends to need a little more preparation than your average meal, we might not make pot roast too often. Still, there’s actually a simpler way to make this delicious dish without cooking it in the oven. Not only does this method use a slow cooker, it even uses a barbecue seasoning for additional flavor.

That’s right, today we’re making a barbecue slow cooker pot roast which is so delicious and should fall apart in your mouth when it’s done. Because this one is so simple to make, your family is sure to come back to this recipe again and again. So let’s get started, shall we?

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 three-pound boneless beef chuck roast
  • 2 cups of ketchup
  • 1/4 cup of packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder

Here’s what you do:

1. To start, get out your chuck roast and carefully cut it in half. Put both chunks into the slow cooker.

2. In the meantime, get out another small bowl and mix together your ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder and chili powder. Stir it up with a fork before pouring it over your beef. Stir it around once more to make sure the beef gets evenly coated with it.

3. After you’ve done that, cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for eight hours. After that time has passed, open it up and check to make sure that the beef is tender. If so, set it aside somewhere and skim the excess layer of fat off the liquid that remains in the slow cooker.

4. When it’s all done, get out your two forks and shred it up until it’s the consistency of pulled pork. At that point, throw your shredded pork back into the liquid and stir it all up. After all that’s done, serve it up while it’s still hot!

Unlike your traditional pot roast, this version is more of an imitation of pulled pork done in a different way. The end result is a sweet barbecue flavor that will melt in your mouth. To complete this dish, you could also serve it over a bed of grits or packed into a sandwich. No matter how you do it, make sure to add some cheese as well to round out all the flavors.

Although the above recipe is fairly straightforward, you can also take the basics of it and substitute in your own flavors and spices if you don’t want to have the barbecue flavor be so prominent. Feel free to throw in some additional vegetables as well to add a little more texture and flavor to everything. Above all, have fun with this recipe and let us know how it goes!
