I bet when you think of eating a pineapple, you envision a cumbersome routine of trying to cut it open with a knife, get juice all over your hands, and generally spending a lot of time and energy trying to experience this fruit.
But, some people on the internet have demonstrated that there is another way to get to the fruity deliciousness of a pineapple; a method that doesn’t require any knife.
Pineapple eating methods have been controversial for quite some time now.
There have been great debates over whether pineapple belongs on pizza or not. And during these arguments, people often come out swinging strongly in one way or another.
With some people claiming they hate pineapple, and some people loving pineapple, we’ve all lost sight of another question altogether.
And that question is, how exactly is pineapple supposed to be eaten anyway?
It’s definitely not easy to eat.
It’s not exactly a fruit you can just plop in your mouth. Despite how delicious it seems to some people (and I thoroughly agree), pineapple definitely requires some planning.
It makes you put the work into enjoying it. Either you have to learn how to properly cut a pineapple, or you have to buy some pricier precut pineapple at the store.
And if you’re doing the pineapple cutting yourself, you need to be prepared for some mess.
You might end up getting your hands sticky at the very least, as well as grappling with the slightly sharp parts on its outer skin.
But I bet you never knew you could actually put its tough exterior to use.
You have definitely never seen this before. It’s an entirely new way to eat pineapple, but it is maybe the best way to manage this fruit.
Turns out, you can actually separate chunks of pineapple while still holding onto the rind.
The reason this works is because pineapples are actually “fruitlets”, meaning that pineapples are made of a bunch of berries that actually fused together while growing around a shared core.
Because of this formation, you can pretty easily separate chunks of pineapple in order to eat them without using a knife.
Someone posted a really handy visual on Twitter.
I am not sure that words can do this eating method any justice. You really just have to watch the video on Twitter.
Fair warning, there are some pretty intense chewing sounds in the background, so if you have an aversion to that sort of thing, you might just want to keep the sound off.
But the video is worthwhile because it shows exactly how simple this pineapple-eating trick is.
It also exemplifies how much better it can make your life.
And, people had some opinions.
Pineapple may be the most controversial fruit of all time.
While some commenters were amazed:
“my mind blown at this point.”
Others made good points:
“I guess people who didn’t grow up on tropical islands didn’t know this How do y’all think people ate pineapples prior to knives?”
Regardless of your opinion on this new habit, or on pineapples in general, I think we can all agree this is pretty handy.
My mind is definitely blown by this. I’m going to try it out as soon as I can. There’s just something fun about learning something new and learning more about delicious food.
