Many people look at the humble egg and think that it’s a simple food. You boil it or fry it and that’s pretty much it.

But did you know there’s a lot you can still learn about eggs? Master of food science, Suzelle DIY, will teach you some of these tricks in a fun little YouTube video.

You’ll appreciate this “eggcellent” tip to make sure you only cook and eat fresh eggs.

Let’s start with the most important part of food, health and safety. How do you know if your eggs are fit for eating?

Suzelle recommends dipping your eggs into a glass of water. As she says:

“If it sinks down, keep it around.
If it floats, then stick it on a boat
and sail away from it, because it’s bad.”

Suzelle also teaches an easy way to tell raw eggs from hard-boiled eggs.

Have you ever left a hard-boiled egg a little too close to the raw eggs? Well rather than play the lottery, why not spin the egg?

When you spin the egg and put your finger on top, it will stop if it’s hard-boiled. Raw eggs will still spin because the egg whites are still spinning around inside.

Never eat eggshells again with this neat trick.

If you’ve ever bit down on eggs and chomped on a piece of eggshell, you know it’s not fun. So how do you keep from ruining your breakfast?

As it turns out, it’s not difficult at all! All you have to do is use the eggshell to scoop up the shell fragments. The eggshells will be attracted to one another, like tiny magnets. It works like magic!

Speaking of cracking eggs…

If you’ve ever had a recipe call for separated eggs, you might be wondering how you can do that. Well, you can use a serving spoon with partitions in it to catch the yolk and let the egg whites through.

And as a bonus tip, you can make a unique fried egg by mixing mozzarella, salt, and pepper with your egg white. Next, pour the mixture into a pan, then create a well for the egg yolk. Carefully place the yolk in the well and cook to perfection.

Suzelle explains:

“It’s like a little golden sun in a nest of love.”
